I don't remember these off the top of my head, but most books will cover it. There is a defined process to doing a conversion, and a defined checklist of things you will need to look for in your converted solution and resolve.

I highly recommend a book called Using FileMaker X (8/9/10) or any FileMaker book (FileMaker bible, and so on) which document conversions. If it's a much larger solution, these will obviously take much longer to convert, and there will be many more issues that will need sorting, a lot of them will end up being obscure.

If the system is relatively small, you may actually be better off rebuilding it from scratch in 10 as a single-file solution to save hassle of conversion & fixing. If you are going to be doing lots of upgrades and conversions of databases I suggest you evaluate each one on it's merits. The issues surround a number of things, such as functions no longer supported in filemaker, committing records, and how versions of filemaker pre 7 used to have to operator, compared to versions post-7 which introduced a single file - multi-table relational design.

NOTE however that there are many issues surrounding an upgrade from pre-7 to post-7 and there is a very high (basically likely) chance that there will be issues with the converted files. fp5 files for a given database (making sure you select ALL of them), and drag them onto the filemaker 10 icon. 600 databases, thats a lot of databases, do you mean files or actual separate databases? Basically files created in prior to version 7 won't run in versions 7 and above, but filemaker has a built in conversion tool which can convert older files into the 'new'.
